Wilma Lorraine Signorelli (née Wassum), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished
friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 8, 2025, with her sons at her side,
holding her hands and surrounding her with love.
Wilma was born on March 28, 1938, in Economy, Pennsylvania. She was a deeply kind,
thoughtful, and caring person whose warmth and generosity touched everyone she met. Wilma
had an abundant capacity for love—especially for her grandchildren and granddogs, her
children, and most of all, her husband Frank, with whom she shared more than 60 years of
marriage. Childhood sweethearts, Wilma and Frank’s lifelong devotion to one another was a
true inspiration to family and friends alike.
Wilma graduated from the Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing and began her career
as part of the nursing team of Dr. George Magovern, who performed the first successful aortic
valve transplant surgery. She later served as a nurse at the Army hospital in Bad Cannstatt,
Germany, while Frank was stationed overseas. Upon returning to the United States, Wilma
continued a long and successful nursing career, working at Sewickley Valley Hospital, Dixmont
State Hospital, Mayfield State Hospital, and through numerous private-duty assignments.
Beyond her professional life, Wilma was the unofficial nurse of her Byersdale community,
always ready to bandage a knee, offer comfort, or provide care with her calm and
compassionate demeanor. She was a devoted parent and grandparent who never missed her
children’s events and supported her grandchildren whenever she could.
A passionate Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Wilma rarely missed a game and loved watching sports of
all kinds—especially cheering for the underdog during March Madness. Wilma loved people,
and people loved Wilma. She was truly a special presence in the lives of all who knew her.
Wilma was preceded in death by her beloved husband Frank and her son Richard. She is
survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Christina, and James and Patti; her
grandchildren Erwin, Seamus, Cayden, and Julie; and several special nieces.
In accordance with her wishes, Wilma’s body was donated to science. A funeral service in her
honor will be held on Sunday, December 28, at 1:00 p.m. at Rehoboth Lutheran Church in
Baden, Pennsylvania, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Wilma’s memory may be made to the Beaver County Humane
Society.
