On Wednesday, October 12, 2022, Wallace Gerald McClellan, loving husband and father of three, passed away at the age of seventy-five. An excellent pilot, and master of his craft, he obtained his Bachelors of Science in Mathematics from the University of West Virginia and then went on to serve this great country in the Air Force. He flew two tours in Vietnam and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, a metal of honor given only to members of the U.S. armed forces who have distinguished themselves in support of operations by “heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight,” and a hero he was. Wally, as friends and family called him, then went on to the commercial sector, where he flew for thirty-seven years for US Airways. Upon retiring, he was then recruited by Boeing as the lead flight instructor, and had a very successful career there, especially while working on the Boeing Dreamliner 787.
Wally was known for many things, beyond being one of the best and safest pilots the skies have ever known. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman, but perhaps best known for his witty jokes, impeccable story-telling, and his hilarious one-liners. Wally was a strong believer in Christ and had incredible patience, great intelligence, a kind temperament, and a generous nature. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan McClellan of thiry-four years, and his three daughters, Kajsa, Stacy and Kristi. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 24th, 2022, at 12:30 p.m. at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies located at 1158 Morgan Rd, Bridgeville, PA 15017.
