Shirley M. Koper

Shirley Ann Miller Koper, age 89, of Sewickley, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 1, 2025. She was born on August 8, 1936 and lived a full life devoted to her family and the many golden retrievers who brought her such joy.

She was married to the love of her life, Ray, with whom she shared 65 wonderful years. Together they raised two sons: Doug (Nora) and Tom (Gayle). She was the proud grandmother of Abby (John), Tommy, Matthew, Erin, Kim, and Heather. The cherished great-grandmother of Aiden,  Wyatt, Michael, Alyssa, Aniya, Maddie, Olivia, Korey, and Ruby whom she loved so dearly.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Bertha and Carl Miller. Having no siblings, she poured her energy into her family and her career as a teacher. Shirley graduated from Mount Mercy College in 1958 where she studied Elementary Education. Shirley spent most of her 30 year career teaching 3rd grade at Sto-Rox Elementary.

Outside the classroom, she was happiest at home surrounded by her beloved golden retrievers. She especially cherished the experience of traveling with her therapy dogs and her show dog Willy. It brings us joy knowing she will be reunited with Megan, Dolly, Molly, Holly, Wally, Gracie, and her Grand Champion Willy.

Shirley will be remembered for her warmth, her deep love of family, and the unwavering devotion she gave to all who knew her.

A private viewing and memorial service will be held at Anthony M. Musmanno Funeral Home on Saturday, September 6th at 9:00 AM with the service beginning at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Shirley’s memory to Animal Friends.
