Reverend David M. Cillo, born August 7, 1959 passed away suddenly from a heart attack on Tuesday, June 2nd. As a young man interested in cars and caddying at Longue Vue Club, Fr. David felt the love and call of Jesus Christ. As he grew in faith, his love of Christ deepened through high school at Penn Hills, while the desire to serve Jesus and his Church became stronger in his heart. After completing minor seminary and an undergraduate degree at Duquesne University, Fr. Cillo entered major seminary formation at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio. Fr. Cillo was then ordained as a priest for the Diocese of Pittsburgh in 1985 by the then Bishop of Pittsburgh, Anthony Cardinal Bevilacqua. Known for his sense of humor, practicality, dynamic sermons, genuine concern for the needs of the faithful, and compassion, Fr. Cillo served the people of Holy Sepulcher, St. Colman, St. Louise de Marillac, St. Bartholomew, St. Elizabeth of Hungary, Holy Redeemer, St. Bernadette and as chaplain to the students, faculty and staff at Serra Catholic High School. He also was a volunteer fireman and a regular in the kitchens of churches, homes of parishioners, of family and of friends. An avid car enthusiast, Fr. Dave also enjoyed collecting and repairing antique timepieces, particularly grandfather clocks, cooking, and time with his pet, “Mr. Cat.” Fr. David is predeceased by his father, Anthony A. Cillo and is survived by his mother, Dorothy “Dolly” Cillo, brother Philip (Monica) Cillo, sister Mary Ann (Deacon Joe) Compomizzi, nephew Immanuel Compomizzi, and many loving family members and friends who now enjoy his blessing from Heaven, as he once again responded as the Lord called him forth from earthly life saying “Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master’s joy.” (Mt. 25:23). Guests will be received at the Kennedy Township location of the Anthony M. Musmanno Funeral Home, Inc. 941 McCoy Road, McKees Rocks, Pa 15136 on Tuesday, 2:00-8:00 p.m. Additional visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9:00-11:00 a.m. in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 1 Grove Place, Whitehall. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish. In lieu of flowers, Fr. David’s family requests to please make contributions to the Pittsburgh Restaurant Workers Aid – Food Distribution Center at pghrestaurantworkersaid.org.
