Raymond Koper

Raymond Michael Koper, 87, of Sewickley, PA, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on August 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 9, 1939, Ray dedicated his life to his family, friends, and the many golden retrievers who were cherished members of his home.

Ray was married to his beloved wife, Shirley, for 65 wonderful years until her passing on September 1, 2025. Together, they raised two sons, Doug (Nora) and Tom (Gayle). Ray was a proud grandfather to Abby (John), Tommy, Matthew, Kim, and Heather, and a cherished great-grandfather to Aiden, Wyatt, Michael, Alyssa, Maddie, Olivia, Korey, and Ruby, all of whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his brother, Paul (Linda) Koper.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Mary Koper; his sister, Eileen (Robert) Bender; and his grandson, Michael O’Kert.

A graduate of Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Ray went on to earn his master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Ohio State University. Ray spent his entire career at Dravo on Neville Island, working his way up through the company before retiring as President of Bulk Materials. His career allowed him to travel the world, build lasting friendships, and leave a meaningful mark on the company and the people he worked with.

In retirement, Ray and Shirley continued to enjoy traveling the world together. He remained active through his love of golden retrievers, with a passion for therapy and show dogs. Ray volunteered at Ohio Valley Hospital and with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, where he enjoyed putting his love of numbers to work while helping others. Most recently, he served as President of the Sewickley Men’s Club and remained active on various committees and clubs at the Masonic Village.

Ray will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his generous spirit, his love of dogs, his friendships, and his lifelong commitment to serving others.

We find comfort in knowing that Ray is once again reunited with Shirley and their crew of golden retrievers—Megan, Dolly, Molly, Holly, Wally, Gracie, and Grand Champion Willy. Likely serenading them all on the accordion and piano.

A viewing will be held at Anthony M. Musmanno Funeral Home on Friday, August 21, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Masonic Village, Attn: Employee Appreciation Fund. Ray had immense gratitude for the staff who cared for the residents each day and deeply appreciated their compassion, hard work, and dedication.
