Paul R. Cercone

94, a lifelong resident of McKees Rocks, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 2, 2021.  Beloved husband of the late Claire Adler Cercone, cherished and loving father of Paul Cercone (Rose) and the late Judith Cercone.  He was the son of the late Pasquale and Emilia Savatt Cercone and was preceded in death by his six siblings, Amanda DeFonso, Carrie Riddle, Frank Cercone, Lena Kyle, Virginia DiPietro, and Yolanda Klump.  He was the brother in-law of the late Jean Bui.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Paul was a proud veteran of World War II.  He enlisted in the Army at the age of 17, serving in the Philippines, and was awarded a Purple Heart for his valor.  He worked as an elevator mechanic for Westinghouse Elevator until his retirement in 1988.   Paul was a loving husband and a devoted father who never hesitated to use his “fix-it” skills to help his children.  He was known by family and friends as a quiet man who was extremely kind, generous and well-liked by those fortunate enough to make his acquaintance.

He believed in giving back to the community and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in McKees Rocks for many years.  He enjoyed watching and supporting all of Pittsburgh’s sports teams, but his passion was Pittsburgh Steelers football, as the Cercone extended family has held Steeler season tickets since 1970.  Paul enjoyed making wine and regularly participated in poker nights with friends, frustrating them repeatedly with the number of times he won.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Vincentian Personal Care Home in McCandless for their gentle care and support for Paul over the past nineteen months.  Additionally, the family extends thanks to Pilgrimage Hospice for the care and the family support they provided over the last several days.

Family and friends will be received from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at the Kennedy Township location of the  Anthony M. Musmanno Funeral Home, Inc., 941 McCoy Rd, McKees Rocks, PA 15136, (412) 504-2000.  Masks are required for visitation.  A funeral mass for Paul will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Saint Malachy Catholic Church, 343 Forest Grove Rd, Coraopolis, PA 15108, with Father Regis Ryan as celebrant.  Everyone please meet at the church.  Committal services and entombment in Saint Mary Cemetery, McKees Rocks, will follow.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Paul’s memory to Vincentian (https://vcs.org/donate-now/) with the designation Vincentian Personal Care.
