Linda Barth Obituary

Linda Mobberley Barth, of Robinson Township, passed away on February 7, 2023. She died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her husband, children, siblings, and her siblings’ spouses.

Her mother and father, Alice and Roy Mobberley, preceded Linda in death. She is survived by her husband Ken, daughter Olivia (John), son Colton, brother James “Jim” (Suzanne), sister Carol (Glenn), and cat Cocoapuff.

Linda was born April 1, 1958 in Sewickley Hospital. She attended Montour High School, where she met her husband Ken, graduating in 1976. Linda went on to study journalism at Duquesne University graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1980. Following graduation, Linda worked at a PR agency for a brief period before she started her career at US Airways as a Flight Attendant.

Linda married Ken in 1983. She and Ken always wanted to have a family. After waiting nine long years, they were able to adopt Olivia (1993) and Colton (1998) through Genesis of Pittsburgh. Linda cherished nothing more than being a mother to her two children.

Family to Linda was more than shared DNA. In addition to treasured relatives and friends, Linda also had her church family. Linda was a member of Ken Mawr United Presbyterian church her entire life. Ken Mawr was where Linda had her baptism, where she had her confirmation and where she and Ken were married. She served as a Deacon and an Elder multiple times, was an avid volunteer for Vacation Bible School, was on the care and compassion committee (the list goes on). Friends from Ken Mawr quickly grew into family who would help Linda throughout some of her toughest days and some of life’s most joyful moments.

Linda suffered a long and complicated medical history. She has been patient zero in various different medical trials and studies that will go on to further develop medicine and help the lives of others. Her pancreas lasted nearly 27 years (22 longer than predicted), making Linda one of the longest living pancreas recipients nationally. Linda was also a kidney recipient twice, one time being from Ken as a living donor (a perfect match!). No matter how sick Linda felt, she always showed up with a joyful attitude and all the love to give.

Linda cared deeply about people and made it her mission to love and help others. When she was in the hospital on numerous occasions, she always asked Pastor Karl to pray for all the other patients around her before ever asking for prayers for herself. She loved to spend time with people and made sure people felt seen, heard, and appreciated. Linda lit up any room with her infectious personality and kindness. She touched the lives of so many, and was a true example of living by faith. We will miss her immensely, and are very grateful for the years we had with her in this lifetime.

In lieu of flowers, Linda has requested donations to Ken Mawr United Presbyterian Church and/or Genesis of Pittsburgh.
