"Lawrence (Lar) Hendrick, age 82, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025. A lifelong resident of Pittsburgh, Larry was a proud and dedicated Ironworker with Local 3 for 38 years. His skilled hands helped shape the city’s skyline, leaving his mark on some of its most iconic landmarks—including PNC Park, Heinz Field, the U.S. Steel Building, the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, and countless hospitals, bridges, and parking structures. His legacy lives on in the iron and steel of the city he loved.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Frances Hendrick. He was a brother (Donald) and devoted father to Lee (Carrie) Hendrick and Laura Donaldson, and a “Pappy extraordinaire” to his three grandchildren: James, Sara, and Jake—of whom he was endlessly proud. He never missed a game, match, birthday, or family dinner, always showing up with support, humor, and love.
He taught all the grandkids how to play poker and bet on sports—lessons delivered with laughter and many jokes. His passionate (and occasionally frustrated) love for the Pittsburgh Steelers brought him joy, as did a cold beer, good company, and a fresh loaf of Mancini’s bread.
Larry’s life was full of hard work, deep love, and strong values. His presence will be missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts and stories of those who knew and loved him."
