We are saddened to announce the death of Kamlaben Jani on September 8th, 2022. She lived a long and loving life that is hard to summate in a short obituary. In attempts to try, here is the story of Kamlaben Jani.
Kamlaben was born on October 26, 1937 in the small Indian village of Pilvai and passed away 7,695 miles away in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania. In between was a life filled with hard work as she worked the family convenience store up until her early 80s. She also kept her ever-growing and constantly on the brink of boom or bust family together with homey meals, traditions, and everlasting humility & love. She was called “mom” by many in McKees Rocks but especially by her five children: Janak, Bank, Hema, Julie, Sunny, and her recently adopted David. All five found it difficult to be away from her for very long and all five found their way back to McKees Rocks to enjoy her last years of life. She was known for her immense strength and mental resilience as her childhood was marked by a World War and the world’s largest forced migration. She left her home in 1985 in attempts to create a better life for previously mentioned five children. She succeeded.
She leaves behind her five children and eight Grandchildren, who she will remain with for the rest of their lives.
