Joseph Edward Gielata, 12/19/1931 – 5/24/2024
Age 92, of Stowe Twp., Joe passed away peacefully on Friday, May 24, 2024. Beloved husband of 67 years to the late Elizabeth “Betty” June Gielata. Son of Polish immigrants, the late Michael and Anna Gielata. Dear father of Michael E. (Patti) Gielata, Kevin E. (Vicki) Gielata, and Eric J. (Melissa) Gielata. Loving grandfather of Katie, Michael (Emma), Tyler, Isaac, Shelby, Lucas and great-grandfather of Reese and Penn. Joe was a proud little brother of his four late sisters, Mary Fidora, Sally Krupzig, Helen Craig and Bernie Borkowski. Brother-in-law of Bill (Ruth Ann) Snyder, Jane Snyder, Joyce Snyder and Jack (Pam) Snyder. Also survived by nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Joe served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Upon his return, Joe often square danced, where he met Betty. They eloped, and moved to Ohio, where Joe began his career in plastics.
Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved spending time in nature with his boys, nephews, grandsons, and friends – especially catching steelheads! His sayings, quotes, and songs will endure for generations to come. We will always think of him and smile when we purchase a new pair of brogans, eat marshmallows, or watch horse racing at the Meadows. Joe loved gardening – especially tomatoes, making and eating pierogies, reading the newspaper, and any adventure with Betty by his side.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Celebration Villa of Lakemont Farms, Highmark ECCM, Advanced Home Health, Gallagher Hospice, and Joe’s neighbor Diane for the compassion and care shown to Joe.
