It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Fred Charles Grabel, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and 22-year veteran of the U.S. Army, who died peacefully at the age of 77.
Fred was born on August 19, 1948 in Crafton, Pennsylvania and passed on January 9, 2026.
Fred will be remembered for his courage, integrity, and dedication to his family and country.
Fred was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Chong Sun Grabel (Kim), with whom he shared 44 years of love and partnership. Their enduring bond was a testament to their deep love and
they built a family grounded in kindness and hard work. Fred was a loving father to Scott, Jeff,
Tom (Yvonne) and Fred Jr. He was also a proud grandfather who delighted in spending time
with his grandchildren (Kimella, Donovan and Isaac), passing on his wisdom, humor, and love of
life.
Fred was also a proud Vietnam War veteran who served his country with honor and distinction,
embodying the true spirit of patriotism and sacrifice. In retirement, Fred continued to live life
with the same vigor and commitment that he had in the military, spending his time with family
and friends and creating a happy life for his wife and children.
Fred is survived by his wife, four children, three grandchildren, sister Betty and a host of
extended family and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father
Fred J. Grabel, mother Abby Grabel, brother Phil Grabel, and sisters Lori Grabel and Midge
Wenger.
A funeral service will be held at a later date with military honors to follow.
Fred Charles Grabel will forever be remembered for his devotion to family, service to his
country, and the positive impact he made on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
