Dewitt J. Peart

Dewitt Joseph Peart, age 92, of Kennedy Township, PA, died on February 25, 2025. Born
October 21, 1932, in Pittsburgh, to Dewitt Robert Peart and Dorothy (Felthouse) Peart, Dewitt
graduated from North Catholic High School and later earned his bachelor’s degree at the
University of Pittsburgh.
An early interest in astronomy led him to positions at the Buhl Planetarium, where he was a
docent, and the Allegheny Observatory, where he operated the 30-inch Thaw Refractor. After
serving in the US Army 11th Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, KY, Dewitt joined an expedition
to Sudan in 1955 to observe a solar eclipse for the Air Force Cambridge Research Center (now
the Air Force Research Laboratory).
He went on to a career of more than 30 years at PNC Bank, rising from a teller to an officer in
community banking. A man of learning and serious pursuits, Dewitt enjoyed building telescopes,
listening to classical music, and playing chess. He is dearly remembered for his good humor
and loving nature.
Dewitt was the beloved husband of 58 years of the late Marian (Tessicino) Peart. He was the
father of three children, Dewitt M. [Jane] Peart, David J. [Julie] Peart, and Kimberly R. [Jay]
McMonagle; brother to Dolores A. Peart, Diana M. Streba (deceased), and Darlene D. Peart;
grandfather to Michael A. [Leah] Peart, Andrew C. [Rory] Peart, J. Tyler Peart, Kelsey R. Peart,
and Haley J. [John] Rudolph; and great-grandfather to Beau Rudolph.
Burial will be by private ceremony. In lieu of flowers and donations, please look up at the stars
on a clear night and think of him.
