Dev R. Bhandari

Dev Raj Bhandari, age 92, of Murrysville, Pennsylvania, passed away in the early hours of July 15, 2026.

Born on October 10, 1933 in India, he was the son of the late Mool Raj and Nanad (Rani) Bhandari. He grew up in Khanna, earned his undergraduate degree from Madras Institute of Technology followed by a master’s degree from the University of Mississippi and a Ph.D. from the University of Alabama.

Dev dedicated more than 35 years to his career with Westinghouse Electric Company. His keen intellect and exceptional talent earned him the respect of his colleagues and others throughout his profession. His career also brought him several cherished friendships that lasted throughout his life.

Above all else, Dev was devoted to his family. He was a loving brother, uncle, and father, but the role that brought him the greatest pride was being “Papa.” He found his deepest happiness in simply being together with those he loved. In his final days, he was able to share a favorite pastime—watching World Cup soccer—with his family by his side.

Dev will be remembered for his fierce loyalty, generous heart, quick wit, and unwavering love for his family. He possessed a lifelong curiosity that shaped his interest in learning, current events, financial markets, and sports. He also took great pleasure in helping his grandchildren with their homework and watching them grow into the people they are today.

Each of his grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He cherished Isabella’s affection and gentle heart, Giuliana’s determination and gift for making him laugh, and Brooks’s kindhearted nature and athleticism. He took immense pride in each of them and in all of their accomplishments.

He is survived by his children, Angela (Chris) Lowe of Penn Township, and Sarah (Rustin) Burger of Mars, and his grandchildren, Isabella, Giuliana, and Brooks, along with loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Chris (Toigo) Bhandari, mother of his treasured daughters; his brothers Bal Raj and Yash Raj Bhandari; and younger sister Nimmo (Bhandari) Verma.

In keeping with his generous spirit and commitment to education, Dev donated his body to science through the Humanity Gifts Registry of Pennsylvania. His gift to the University of Pittsburgh allows his passion for learning to continue by helping educate future generations.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dev’s hospice nurses, Chris and Drema, as well as Holli, Amy, Morgan, Sophie, Ashley, Melissa, Michelle, and the entire staff of William Penn Personal Care, for the compassion, kindness, and dignity they showed Dev and his family.

Dev’s life was defined by perseverance, accomplishment, generosity, and, most of all, an abiding love for his family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
