Age 88, of Stowe Township, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. Beloved husband of 66 years to Janet R. Debold.

Dear father of Lynn (Brian) Nicotero and the late Daniel Debold. Grandfather of Jocelyn (Ramon Lacroze) Nicotero and Allison Nicotero. Brother of the late Carol (Carol ) Halbedl.

Dan grew up in Pittsburgh on the Northside and McKees Rocks. He had fond memories of living on Railroad Street. He attended McKees Rocks High School and graduated in 1955. He met his high school sweetheart and future wife of 66 years, Janet, when she moved into the same neighborhood as him. He won her over with his black-and-white 1956 Chevrolet Bel-Air Convertible. They spent their weekends with their friends where they would go dancing, share milkshakes, visit the drive-in, and go bowling. Janet worked at The Roxian Movie Theatre where she would sneak him in for “free” movies and popcorn. After 5 years, they got married on July 23, 1960. 

On June 18, 1961 Dan enlisted in the army. He completed basic training at Fort Knox and served 6 months of active duty before transferring to the Army Reserve. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on March 28, 1967. 

He worked at Duer Spring for 30 years, with one of his best friends, Joe “Sonny” Spisic. He celebrated an early retirement when the company left Pittsburgh. This gave him more time to enjoy the people and things he loved. 

He was a great father and spent time teaching and coaching his kids, Lynn and Daniel, all about baseball. He continued this legacy with his grandchildren, Jocelyn and Allison, attending all of their cheerleading and gymnastics events. 

From a young age, Dan had always loved sports. From duckpin setting at a bowling alley and playing football to his lifelong love for the Steelers, sports were a very important part of his personality. You would frequently find him at Theresa’s Bakery buying football squares. 

In his free time, he volunteered to host local elections in his garage where he served as a constable, worked with his family in the German booth at St. Malachy Church for the Nationality Festival, and tended to his garden where he grew a 10 foot tall sunflower! In what his family calls “Debold Farms,” he spent hours in his garden growing pumpkins and protecting his garden from groundhogs, where he would catch and release them somewhere safe. He loved watching Western films with an ice cold beer and a fish sandwich. 

Dan and Jan shared a loved of travel. They went on countless trips: Las Vegas, Alaska, Florida, Aruba, New York, Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada & more. 

But most of all Dan loved his family. He will certainly be missed by all who knew and loved him. 

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, aides and all who took care of him these last months.

Family and friends are welcome for visitation on Friday, July 31, 2026 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Anthony M. Musmanno Funeral Home, Inc. 941 McCoy Road McKees Rocks, (Kennedy Township) Pa 15136. A Blessing Service will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 11:00 am in the Musmanno Chapel. Burial will follow at St. Marks Cemetery.
