Bernard Schultz Obituary

Bernard Allen Schultz

July 23, 1956 – November 24, 2025

Bernard Allen Schultz (aka Bern, Bernie, Big Bern, Pappy, and Bubba) was many things, but “ordinary” was never one of them. He spent his life defying odds, fiercely independent, and had many of us convinced that he might just outlive us all.

Bern was incredibly handy. He could fix almost anything, and because of him, his children are confident that they can too. He believed in figuring things out, making do, and not calling for help unless absolutely necessary. That mindset stuck.

Bern was tall, dark, and handsome, with a deep, booming voice that often sounded like yelling, though he insisted, “This is how I talk!!” Underneath it all, the tough-looking biker was a soft-hearted man who cared deeply, even if he didn’t always show it in gentle ways, and loved in the best way he could.

Bern found ways to be there when you needed him, sometimes quietly, sometimes unexpectedly, but often when it counted most. He would quite literally give someone the shirt off his back.

Bern was fun, likable, steadfast, and unforgettable. There isn’t a single person who knew him who doesn’t have a funny, heartfelt, or wild story. He left impressions everywhere he went.

Later in life, strokes limited some of his abilities, but never his memories. He carried with him a lifetime of stories about “the things I used to do,” and those stories remain part of who he is to all of us.

Bern is survived by his wife, Pamela Schultz; his children, Mandi Marszalek, Brandi Kruse (husband David), Hope Barry, and Cody Schultz (wife Alicia); his grandchildren, Sebastian Marszalek, Autumn Kruse, Hannah Kruse, Greyson Lundberg, Lennon Barry, and Kaylee Schultz; and his siblings, Sherry Underwood and Terri Stark.

Bern passed surrounded by family and, most importantly, love. He is deeply missed and will be remembered for his strength, humor, heart, and unmistakable presence. He is now at peace, reunited with his beloved dogs, Haze, Brutus, and Harley.

True to form, even in death, Bern wanted to help others and chose to donate his body to science at the University of Pittsburgh. A private memorial for donor families will be held in Spring 2026.

To know Bern was to love him. If you have a great story you’d like to share, please email it to brandischultz@yahoo.com with the subject line Bern Schultz. These stories will be compiled and shared with his loved ones.
