Patricia Mary Walter, formerly of Churchill, and most recently a resident of Redstone Highlands, died peacefully on October 30, 2018 after a brief period of failing health.
Born April 18, 1933 in Turtle Creek, Pat received her BS and MS in teaching from the University of Pittsburgh and was a primary school teacher for the former Churchill School district until her retirement. She was not only charitable, but a generous and compassionate caregiver, tending to not only her father, but 2 uncles as their health declined. She volunteered for a number of years at Mercy Hospital as a Gray Lady, and later volunteered at Columbia Hospital, as well as supporting a number of charities. An avid reader herself, Pat also was an adult literacy volunteer.
A simple, private and independent woman, she always had her own car, and never wanted to impose on anyone. In addition to reading and volunteer work, she enjoyed traveling the world with her friends, playing bridge, gardening, walking and her cat(s). Pat was fond of animals, and patron of nature, donating a 28-acre reserve, known as the Walter Nature Reserve in Murrysville to the Westmoreland Conservancy.
Preceded most recently in death by her brother Dr. William J. Walter, she is survived by her sister in law Jacqueline Walter; 3 nieces, Kathy Harding, (Warren), Karin (Rainah) Walter and Mary Beth Overcashier, (Jan), several grand nephews, and a host of long-time friends. She also enjoyed a long and loving relationship with step nieces and nephews, Chris Meyers, Valerie (Russ) Buck, Nick (Lori Anne) Meyers, Anita (P.J.) Simpson, and their extended families.
Pat’s generous spirit continues to touch lives. At Pat’s request, her body will be donated to the University of Pittsburgh Medical School.
Cards and condolences to the family (no flowers please) may be sent to Pat’s family via Mary Elizabeth Overcashier, 5631 Compton Lane, Eldersburg, MD, 21784.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Chapel at Redstone Highlands, 4953 Cline Hollow Road, Murrysville, PA 15668
