Of Munhall, PA passed away peacefully, at the age of 89, on January 16, 2018. John is survived by his wife, Jane (Bartok) Shamlin; children, Shirley (William Kubler), Karen (Bayless), John (Tracie Kreutzer), Donna (Dean Cirigliano), David (Doris Green), James (Jodi Fonas); stepsons, Michael and Damon Ruth; 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; sisters, June (Akers) and Sandy (Thomas Palmieri); and numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his brother, Richard; sister, Catherine; and his daughter, Patricia (Ortiz). Aside from the legacy of the love and memories carried by his family and friends, at John's request, his body will be donated to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center for the advancement of medical science. A memorial service will be scheduled, notification to follow. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Organization, www.alz.org.
